Rough Crowd August: Coming Out Kinky

A lot of kinky folk lead a double life of sorts: a public and professional life with our family, friends, and coworkers, and a secret life cloaked in shadows. But we’re not superheroes with secret identities – we’re kinky people. There’s a commonly held belief among us kinky folk that to come out of the kinky closet would mean ruin, to careers, to families, to custodial situations, and more. And to make matters more complicated: even if you decided you wanted to, just how on earth do you come out as “kinky?”

Today, we’ll take a cold hard look at some of the issues surrounding coming out, including where risks are, what it means to come out, and some ideas of how to do it. This day is for anyone interested in this question, from the curious, to those presently wrestling with the question of whether this is something they really want to change in their lives.

Bringing your own play partner is always awesome, but not required; while couples and groupings are always encouraged to come together (hey, isn’t that always nice?), it’s not a requirement to have a partner to come to Rough Crowd.

All genders, ages, experience levels, races, shoe sizes, sexual orientations and preferences, religions, pet preferences, fitness levels, tax brackets, partnership status, poly, D/s, M/s, height, eye color, and pizza topping choices are welcome (even all veggie pizza, if that’s your thing; your pizza is not my pizza, and that’s OK).

If you’re into rough body play, or if you think this sounds interesting, then yes, it *is* for you. Come to Rough Crowd for overview, instruction, and practice time. Safety and technique will be first, and then ideas and practice time. No experience necessary; you’ll have some by the time you leave.

Cigar Chicago May Smoker

Smoker Date: Sunday, May 19, 2013

Our next smoker is Sunday May 19, 6:30-10:00 at Blue Havana. Kick back with a cigar or two and cigar camaraderie with other kinky cigar lovers. As always, we’re taking over the shop after hours, so it’s just us. This time is all BYOB, so bring your favorite whisky and share the love with your friends; who knows, you might just find a new favorite for your bar, too.

Bring some whisky, bring some chocolate, but mostly bring yourself. We’ll have bootblacking, chocolate, a fantastic humidor, and most of all: good company.

Like a munch, it’s free to attend, but show the venue we appreciate them hosting us and patronize them: buy a cigar. Or two. Or accessories. Or something.

BYOB
Our local expert, WhiskeyMaven, will be attending as a citizen smoker this time (though she hinted that next time, she might do tequila…!), so bring some of your favorite.

Bootblacking
Our local bootblack, Chgoleathergirl, will be there blacking boots for us as usual, and if you’ve never had your boots blacked while smoking a cigar and sipping cognac… some would say you have not yet lived.

Who is Welcome
All genders, ages, experience levels, races, shoe sizes, sexual orientations and preferences, partnership status, poly, D/s, M/s, height, eye color, religions, pet preferences, fitness levels, tax brackets, and pizza topping choices are welcome (even all veggie pizza, if that’s your thing; your pizza is not my pizza, and that’s OK).

Bottom line: if you think this sounds interesting, then yes, it is for you. While couples and groupings are always encouraged to come together (hey, isn’t that always nice?), it’s not a requirement to have a partner to come.

Here’s the event page on FetLife if you want to go tell the world you’re going: https://fetlife.com/events/161840

Here’s the group and discussion are here: https://fetlife.com/groups/55753/group_posts/3864256

Questions, please feel free to ask. I look forward to seeing you there.

Rough

Note that since Chicago requires anyone entering a tobacco shop to be 18 or up, and drinking requires you to be 21 or up, please plan on showing a state-issued ID if asked to do so.

Grappling

Rough Crowd Date: Sunday, June 9, 2013

One of the class requests I’ve gotten a lot is for grappling and wrestling. I’ve been trying to arrange this for a long time, and it’s finally here. I’m delighted to be able to bring in the amazing DoNotGoGently from Pittsburgh, where she does a lot of impressive stuff (see her bio, below).

Note that this Rough Crowd is the same ten bucks as any Rough Crowd; we will be taking up a collection to defray her travel costs coming here to present to us so if you can bring a little extra, please do.

You wanna wrassle? Have an urge to control another’s body using nothing but your own? DNGG shows you some of the basics of wrestling and grappling. We’ll start with common vocabulary and traditional dominance positioning, then up the ante by exploring ways to “supercharge” your grappling by including MMA style strikes, pressure points, and joint locks. You don’t have to get in the ring, but it’s much more fun than sitting on the sidelines!

About DoNotGoGently

DoNotGoGently (DNGG) is a overeducated but down-to-earth kinkster and pop culture aficionado. She considers herself a kinky, semi-radical, sex-positive, monoflexible, womanist femme although most people mistake her for the girl-next-door. When she’s not hard at work, you can find her reading comics, watching sci-fi, generally geeking out, or plotting how best to execute her plan to become a modern-day Amazon warrior.

DNGG has been a member of her local fetish/BDSM and leather communities for a number of years. She is the founder of Grapple Pitt, the Pittsburgh Mentoring Program, and Pittsburgh Coalition of Leather & BDSM Women, and a member of TNG Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Bridge Munch, The Art of Female Dominance, Rope Bite Pittsburgh, Queer Munch, and the Three Rivers Leather Club. DNGG has presented and/or assisted presentations at several events throughout the United States and Canada including multiple GRUEs, WOLFE, Dark Odyssey Winter Fire, Shibaricon, Dark Odyssey Summer Camp, Kinko de Mayo, and TEASE. She has also appeared as a bondage model for Kink Academy and Beauties in Bondage.

Rough Crowd May: Backhanding, Redux

… [or] How To Celebrate Mother’s Day: Backhanding-style!

Let’s face it – backhanding looks really cool when it’s done well. We see it in the movies, but how safe is it to do in a scene? It turns out, backhanding is amazingly potent, and safe when done correctly.

In this class we’ll look at backhanding as an impact style and how the biomechanics differ from open-handed palm-side-first impact play. Come to this class to learn some wonderful techniques for backhanding on the shoulder, back, ass, foot, and other body parts. Time permitting, we may cover more advanced backhanding techniques such as using the hand as a whip, dragon’s tail, cat, and backhanding of genitals and even faces.

We’ll talk about safety, as always: where you can hit, where you should stay away from, and why there are places where you can hit open handed that you can’t backhanded.
