FAQ: When, Where, Who, How

When:

Rough Crowd meets once a month, on the second Sunday, in the afternoon.

The idea is that it’s late enough so that if you want to sleep in, if you were at a party Saturday night (or want to brunch somewhere), or even if you’re coming from MI, WI, IN, etc., you can still make it; we end early enough that if you come in from the suburbs you can catch the train back, or if you drive in from afar you can make it home in time for bed in your own bed.

1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

  • 12:45 Doors open
  • 1:00 Social time
  • 1:20-1:30 Class starts
  • 4:00 (or earlier) Class ends
  • — weather permitting, in the summer, we then go get burritos

Where:

We rent The Studio in Chicago, which is just South of downtown and very easy to get to by car or CTA. The exact location, as well as travel and parking directions, are automatically sent to you when you register for an event. See “Register” for info on our Registration process.

Who:

18 and up. Perverts. If you’re reading this, that probably means you.

If you think you might be able to make it but you’re not sure, register. If you’re registered and you can’t make it, it’s OK, but if you can suddenly make it and you’re not registered, no dice, kid.

Everyone is welcome. Age, race, gender identification, partnership status, poly, D/s, role, familiarity with BDSM, experience, physical abilities, height, eye color or left shoe size… all do not matter here. If you think this sounds interesting, then you just self-identified, and it is for you. You will never be required to do anything you don’t want to do; you may have an opportunity to try out something new if you want to.

Some sessions of Rough Crowd are demo and skills lab; some are talk and participation. While couples and groupings are always encouraged to come together (hey, isn’t that always nice?), it’s not a requirement to have a partner to come to Rough Crowd.

Registration

You must Register for each event. Registration is free, but you cannot get in if you’re not on the list. Yes, really.

Registration always cuts off at noon the day prior to Rough Crowd. Complete instructions are important enough that they have their own page: Register.

What To Bring:

There’s a $20 cover per person

Please bring cash.

BYOE

Bring Your Own Everything. If you want water, soda, snackies, blanket, etc., just bring it along with you. Nice and simple. Would you really rather pay more and get a crappy soda?

Your ID

You’re going to have to sign a waiver, just like anywhere else, and show a real, honest-to-goodness State-issued ID. (We also ask for your email address in case we ever need to contact someone later, phone number in case of late emergencies (like the space was sucked into a giant wormhole and we need to call everyone to warn them off), and FetLife name so we know who’s who on the FetLife event page.)

Who’s From Out Of Town?

We get people from Chicago and surrounding areas, but also people from surrounding states – Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa, and even Minnesota come in for Rough Crowd on a regular basis. We even have people join us from mysterious foreign lands like Australia, and Canada. We have an Eternal Housing Share thread in the Rough Crowd group on FetLife, in the sticky topics, for people who can offer crash space and need crash space.

People often like to combine Rough Crowd with Galleria Domain 2 in Chicago. GD2 is one of the big clubs in Chicago, and they always have their free education event the Saturday before Rough Crowd. If you get a temporary membership there you can go there for their social and class on Saturday afternoon, stay for a great play party in a phenomenal dungeon, and come to Rough Crowd on Sunday. It works out to be a really cheap, kickass DIY kink weekend!
